352 remixes... Latest from Petzkendorf Klangprojekt in Germany... KEEP EM COMING!!! XXX

CS 20.12.07: Here's the Calendar Songs feedback page with all of your great comments on tracklisting preserved. I thought it would be a good context for more feedback now I've announced the final selection, which is this:

    OCTOBER 'PLAYTIME' MIX BY ESKIMO-ESQUE
NOVEMBER 'DREAM POP' MIX BY BENTO BOX
DECEMBER 'CRYSTAL CUCKOO' MIX BY A-LINE
JANUARY 'STALACTITE' MIX BY MAX PLANK
FEBRUARY 'MUMBLEMIX' BY INCOHERENT MUMBLE TRAIN
MARCH 'SECRET SMILE' MIX BY DARKROOM
APRIL 'DRIVE' MIX BY OLD DOG
MAY 'THE FIRE' MIX BY LOVESHADOW
JUNE 'A LA PARISIENNE' MIX BY DITTO-DITTO
JULY 'SPIT SHINE BOY' BY DUCKETT
AUGUST 'EVER COLOR' MIX BY SLEEPERSPACEBORN
SEPTEMBER 'WHEN YOU SAID YES' MIX BY IFR

And by the way: I'm really sorry I was late getting the announcement up. The delay was caused by incredibly long waits at London's Whittington Hospital Accident & Emergency department, and the impossibility of getting a Bellarussain visa in Paris.

Can I also say I owe a huge debt of thanks to master  photographer Jonathan de Villiers for the 'wonderwoman' portrait (I am available for sing-a-grams).

Now onto the business at hand - here's my 12 picks for the Calendar Songs record which I will be self-releasing early in the new year. I am going to talk a lot more about my specific choices in podcasts which will come out around the time of the record, but here and now I'd just like to say that making these choices was very tricky and very enjoyable. I ultimately went for the mixes which, for me, really captured something about the song. I also gave myself a rule: no repeat offenders. Each month had to have a different remixer.

We will be re-working the mixes for the record and that includes re-recording vocals and adding backing vocals. The songs will not be the same as the ones streaming on the site - they will be better!

And yes, if this release goes well I may indeed undertake round II and do another one.

Please let me know what you reckon. Once again, thank you for listening and remixing, and keep the remixes coming! I will maintain this site and add remixes as and when I get them, there's no reason to stop having come this far! And I will let you know dates of release, launch party, gigs, etc., when we're closer into it all.

Have a nice holiday time everybody, and a healthy and happy new year!

Lots of love from Calendar Girl xxx.

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar please Calendargirl, I'm begging you, for the sake of every breath the world takes, include the February remix by IMT in your record.

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I AGREE WITH THAT PERSON.

(ME TOO)

(ya what those people are saying)

Seriously though,

Axis1's Oct.

E-E's Nov. + Dec

Kcentric's Jan

My Feb. (sorry couldn't help it)

Darkroom's March (sorry e-e, already gave you two and he edged you out)

Old Dog's April (if he mixes the voice deeper into the music. I NEEDS MORE SOUND!)

Ditto's May + June (DITTOS JUNE STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR 3 DAYS NO KIDDING)

DJ Rkod's July (super lightstick rave)

sleeperspaceborn's Aug. (outstanding)

My Sept, if it comes out like it's playing in my brain.

Amazing jobs on these songs guys. Truly honored to be among great musicians. 10/1/2007 10:46 PM | Incoherent Mumble Train

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I don't think it should be in order according to month, that's too kitschy.

Do it by mood. 10/2/2007 7:28 PM | imt again

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar oho! not by month? i don't know, i think its important to stay in order. that's the way the songs were written and although its definitely not the ideal tracklisting its important to honour the original framework i set myself. phew that sounded long. x 10/3/2007 5:03 PM | Calendargirl

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar Well, I haven't listened to them all, not by far, but one that really impressed me was sleeperspaceborn's five months, nine hours...Original in combining two months in one track. And apart from that a brilliant mix. 10/3/2007 5:15 PM | Subliminal

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar oldDog's September is addictive. It's dark and atmospheric - like a slow, sad, internal pulse. When I listen to it I imagine I'm alone on a dockside on a moody black night, watching waves gathering and breaking. 10/6/2007 11:26 AM | Scunner

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I have a personal request to put down Rossi's "A Town Called Kill" on the album. His December dance mix is so solid, it was the influence for my Fuse From the Fire mix for May. 10/17/2007 4:23 AM | axisone -Dan S

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar Another thought, I'm on agreement with IMT on the mood, but I think an order should be fulfilled. I'm thinking along the lines of a 2CD compilation, the first CD containing the mixed tracks which correspond well according to mood, and then have the second CD contain all the originals.

To be honest, we have a lot of different styles and genres flowed into calendargirl's voice. Tracklisting will be a difficult task, so best of luck .

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar Personally, I'd like to hear Gabriele Magurno's mix of December and Altcontroldelete's version of January: I really like the pop-rock taste of the first and the dance feel of the second.

Cheers! 11/1/2007 12:39 AM | Junior

Gravatar Dear Calendar Girl:
I found your site some month ago by a friend... and not only I thought that it was a geat idea, but also that was an excellent way to gather a lot of talented people... and darling.... you succed big time!!!!
In my personal opinion (as you may guess I haven“t heard all of the remixes of course) I think that you should put the songs as you consider proper, In my humble opinion I think is great that you do it by month... cause you already showed your mood during the past year and also not only your personal gorwth but the growth of some of the artist.
My choices are:
- January: AltControlDelete I thought it was the best of them all.... and I still stick to my choice.
- December: Gabriele Magurno mix is great, that up beat melody is really really great is like a morning walk in the city; I also liked his April remix but December is genius.
I hope you have a great work ahead... and thank you in advance to let us participate in this album in some way! ;)

Good vibes to you!!! 11/3/2007 3:28 PM | Zuki

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar Sorry I forgot to mention Electronic Jam mix of September... the best of them all... he cached the feeling of the song.. good job!!

Gravatar Re:
Well Axisone is right, it's not easy to make a choise. Everyone here as worked seriously on each of your song, with his own sensibility. Maybe that you have to choise what is the most in harmony with your own sensibility. But the "hit" of the "hit", is "February" of IMT. Is it in harmony..:-). Waiting for, thanks again..and again.. 11/9/2007 10:44 PM | ditto ditto

Gravatar There are many great songs and it is not easy to make a choice. Personally, I think you should consider one of the two songs by bento box:
November
September
These songs sound so different and have great melodies.
I have these two on my iPod.

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I hadn't realised there was such a consensus about the IMT mix of FEB, it is soo THE one! 12/1/2007 11:37 AM | meagain

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I LOVE the Radiotimes remix of August. A really quality remix that had a touch of Grace Jones about the music i thought. The speeded up vocal adds an urgency that we haven't heard on many of the other tracks. It should be in on the album!

Obviously i think A-Line's October mix deserves to be at least a b-side somewhere! ;-) 12/1/2007 7:53 PM | A-Line

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar i mean December remix by A-Line!

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I'm very pleased with this song list, as the ones on here I know are songs I consider very good songs.
I think it's great that you're going to add even more to the songs.

I participated in Calendarsongs less out of a desire to be featured on a CD and more out of the joy of the collaborative nature of the project.
My own work runs in its own grooves, of which I am fond but which are very niche by nature.

I've been so delighted as a listener with hearing the wonderful grooves generated by all the participants in this project, including your choices.

I'm also looking forward as a listener to buying the final result, as a just recognition of the generous spirit shown by all in this project, but in particular shown by Calendar Girl in running this fun show.

I know many of these selected tracks, and look forward to going back and hearing the rest. Things like IMT's wonderful "february", all the loveshadow and old dog songs, and duckett's charmer, all intrigue and delight.

I wish to also say to everyone else who played that I and many others appreciate your work, as nothing is more fun than setting up the player on a given month and hearing the rich and diverse music that resulted.

Well done, all, and more fun ahead. 12/20/2007 4:08 PM | GURDONARK

Gravatar Your welcome, Doghouse Riley. I do think that your January remix was one of the best that I have heard.

Btw, wouldn't it be nice to have CG's selection in one player at this page? Just a thought.

Gravatar agreed. here ya go. thanks for all the comments so far, keep them coming! and remember that the songs streaming in the player on this page will be quite different on the record! Happy Days! CGx 12/21/2007 11:09 AM | calendargirl

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar I've found lately that I don't want to listen to any other music than Calendar Girl. You can spend the whole day in bed listening to all the remixes over and over and over. And then, at the end of the day, life seems justified. 12/21/2007 2:09 PM | Bumble Bee

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar At last..the LIST...but not the least..no the FINAL LIST.
Great choice, First choice...
Listening all the pieces in the order of the monthes, i think that you can keep your first idea of "Concept Album", opening with 'October' and closing with 'September'. Like an album must be, it's progressive and coherent, eclectic but homogeneus. And, the most important, every song brings out your voice, in the respect of your personality.
I'm sure of this, this story is going to be a real album, a very beautiful album.
Your idea takes shape day after day, then, let's work again, a last time, to perfect it..You deserve it..
Waiting for, merry Christmas "Wonder Miss T". 12/22/2007 12:13 PM | ditto ditto

# re: Calendar Songs Feedback

Gravatar Thank you for all your comments! The record is coming along nicely and I'm all busy working on backing vocals and re-records, mmm, fun! Will keep you posted on developments as & when. Love from CGx 1/10/2008 4:33 PM | Calendargirl

Gravatar Such beautiful songs - thanks - what a wondeful idea and way to make music. Pity I arrived 6 months late.

Hope the album is going well and your trip to the Whittington wasnt too painful, i used to live just round the corner from there. 3/26/2008 6:13 AM | Reuben
