CS 05.06.08: A very big thank you to everybody who came down to the Arts Theatre Club last night! It was so fantastic to see you all there! I performed several of the remixes (thank you Darkroom for the last-minute assistance), including the all-acoustic A-Line Crystal Cuckoo mix of December, old Dog's April and Loveshadow's May - both of whom were in attendance! I grabbed somebody to get a picture of the three of us but now (I have a sore head this morning) I can't remember who it was... My pals from Freeform Five came down, as well as Lakaband, Mr.MacInnes, the wonderful, gorgeous Dot Allison and the one and only Fancy Chance. CS 02.06.08: ccMixter is controlled by the board of Creative Commons and there has long been speculation that the operation of the site might be handed over to a new controlling interest. Now that has been confirmed by the CC board putting out a Request For Proposals on the future of ccMixter. Victor Stone, who has run ccMixter since day one, says this:

...This is not just another website where a collection of walled-off musicians trying to “make it” post countess profile pages stacked end-to-end all vying for attention. We are not just another social networking site where our pages point to each other because we are “friends.” Our music points to each others’ music. We are having an open public discourse amongst each using our creative output and sharing the results... Unlike any other music site, we only accept music that re-uses material from the Commons or samples specifically aimed at that re-use. This is because we understand the power of the Commons and know that musicians do better together than alone.

You can read the rest of his very good post on the RFP and all the feedback here.
